Artist's Description
Every piece that I create holds a part of me. But, the π¦ππΏππΆππΌπΏ'π ππΌππΏπ»π²π collection bears all. It depicts my road of escape and healing from domestic violence. I honor all that it took to create them, and the surrender it takes to alchemize pain and trauma into the balm that heals. I honor and offer genuine connection by sharing the story behind each piece. And I give soul hugs with the hope it empowers, and/or validates other survivors.
My spiritual way of being and seeing things may include or exclude your practices and beliefs. But, understand that I am connected to all. You don't have to take my way home, take yours...we'll both get there.

Esther is a courageous queen. She is standing in her power facing the dark. The wounds on her back and head represent betrayal and abuse (over 3 inches of hair was pulled out by my abuser before my escape). The pain and trauma were alchemized...
About Canessa Thomas

Canessa Thomas, a Georgia native, is a self-taught artist, photographer, published author and poet. Her first book of poetry, The Strongest Element: Love Survival, was published Dec. 10, 2007. She has a passion for digital art, collage, mixed media, and photography. Her photography has been exhibited at the Palazzo CΓ Zanardi - Venice, Italy (June 14th-16th, 2019); Blank Wall Gallery - Athens, Greece (July 12th- 14th, 2019) and Qlick Gallery-Amsterdam, Netherlands (July 29th - August 23, 2019). Canessa is also an avid hiker and adventurer who loves nature and the night sky.
