Description

Every piece that I create holds a part of me. But, the 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿'𝘀 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 collection bears all. It depicts my road of escape and healing from domestic violence. I honor all that it took to create them, and the surrender it takes to alchemize pain and trauma into the balm that heals. I honor and offer genuine connection by sharing the story behind each piece. And I give soul hugs with the hope it empowers, and/or validates other survivors.

My spiritual way of being and seeing things may include or exclude your practices and beliefs. But, understand that I am connected to all. You don't have to take my way home, take yours...we'll both get there.

𝗔𝘇𝗶𝘇𝘇𝗮 - (beloved, precious, mighty):

For many, the sun is a symbol of light, clarity, and will. The sun depicted in Azizza holds so much that it explodes. She is walking away with only a few loved things and necessities thrown in the satchel on her shoulder ready for her journey. She's exhaling and creating new life...new worlds. She's empowered. A warrior. This piece represents the day of my escape. I could only fit a day's worth of clothing in my bag without my abuser becoming suspicious. But, I was determined not to spend one more day in fear or suffering increasing violence. My nervous system was in overload.
